MERITS Training Sessions

Industry introduction to the MERITS program occurred throughout 2002.

An overview of MERITS was presented at the Annual Institute on Mining, Health, Safety and Research in Roanoke, VA in August, 2002.

Two "Train the Trainer" seminars were held in 2002. Of particular interest to those who conduct mine emergency response training, these seminars provided a "how-to guide" for running a successful MERITS training session. These hands-on seminars covered all aspects of a training session, from installing the software to setting up a classroom and successfully running a session. The first seminar was held in the Western U.S. on June 21, 2002 at the Holiday Inn in Grand Junction, CO. This seminar was co-sponsored by the State of Colorado’s Department of Natural Resources. The second "Train-the-Trainer" session was held during the TRAM/NMIC conference in October, 2002 in Beckley, WV.

Training in mine emergency management and command center preparation using MERITS is available to private mining companies, government agencies, and labor organizations. For more information about MERITS or about conducting a training session contact:
